Dude Alert!

Picked up the child the other day from some extra-curricular activity. He told me that one of the leaders had called him "dude." He seemed pleased to have been addressed in such a way. "Have you heard this word before?" I ask him. "No, but I know what it means."

It reminded me of a scene from the comedy Friends. In it, the boys are going out "to party" and in the excitement increasingly refer to each other as "dude" until Phoebe steps in and says "Ok, whoa, dude alert!" It seems like males - young and old - enjoy being called "dude."

To paraphrase John 15:15, Jesus says that I no longer call you a servant, instead I call you....well, you can see where I am going with this one.
